John Calipari talks about Derrick Rose

Calipari was on PTI and he gave his reasons why Derrick Rose should be the number one pick in the draft. Not a big surprise considering Calipari was his coach at Memphis. He gives his unique perspective on Derrick Rose to Kornheiser and Wilbon. He says that Derrick Rose can be another Chris Paul or Deron Williams. Damn, I love those guys but I’m sticking with Beasley for now. He also answers the ridiculous notion that Barry Rozner throw out about taking over as head coach of the Bulls. I hope that is ridiculous.

Welcome Back Nights, Suck

Okay, first off I’m glad that Carlton Fisk has been invited back into the White Sox organization. This is long overdue. I got a kick out of the ceremony with Fisk riding in on a old man Harley with Ron Kittle and Bo Jackson. It would have been cooler if they didn’t ruin it with the song from Footloose “Holding Out for a Hero.” The highlights of his Sox career were fun to watch and brought back some memories of Pudge. If you missed it, you can catch it here.

So why do I hate these days? Pretty simple, I hate the fact that we have to welcome back a player that was as great as Carlton Fisk. Shouldn’t Fisk have always been welcomed on the Southside? Just like Stan Mikita and Bobby Hull shouldn’t have had to be welcomed back by the Blackhawks organization.

Who’s welcoming back these players anyways? It’s not the fans, they never forgot what Fisk, Hull and Mikita did for their teams. (more…)

The Sox are Really Hot

You know the Sox are hot, when the blowhards at Around the Horn take the time to talk about the Sox winning ways. Of course it could just be a slow news day. It still is nice that the team on the Southside is starting to get noticed and winning does that. The question is if this team can win the Central Division. Right now it sure seems promising with Cleveland and Detroit struggling, but that could change any day now. The signs however are encouraging and they go back further than this seven eight game winning streak.

First off, it starts and ends with pitching. The three question marks of Contreras, Danks and Floyd have proven they can pitch. Gavin Floyd has already almost thrown two no-hitters and otherwise has been pretty damn effective. Jose Contreras has proven that he still has something left in his arm, while John Danks has already made Sox fans forget about Brandon McCarthey. Add Javier Vasquez into the mix and the Sox have four guys that are pitching pretty consistently. Sure Mark Buehrle has looked schizophrenic on the mound this year, but he should get his act together. If he doesn’t he will still eat innings. (more…)

More or Less: Harry Teinowitz

This week we look at Harry Teinowitz from Mac, Jurko and Harry and ask if sports fans would like more or less of Harry. The former actor, comedian and host of “Harry and Spike” has found his niche hanging with Dan McNeil. He is on arguably the best sports radio show in Chicago, but he definitely isn’t the catalyst of the show. The bigger question is if he actually makes the show better? He does provide some funny moments, but he has plenty of stinkers too. While it’s obvious that McNeil would rather do the show without the Tiny one, Harry does have a role on the show. Dare I say, he even makes it better.

Harry is definitely the least valuable member of the show and he can be annoying with his Cub Love. (more…)

Cedric Benson: Changed Man

Cedric Benson finally made it to the OTA’s and has the look of a changed man. According to David Haugh that is. I guess all it took was a severe injury, the drafting of Matt Forte and getting arrested for resisting arrest to mature the troubled running back. He lost ten pounds and is on a new diet that is sure to take his game to the next level. I’m excited, how about you? Okay for those that don’t know that was sarcasm, because I think it takes more than three weeks to change a complete waste like Cedric Benson?

Apparently, the new Cedric Benson isn’t afraid to throw his G.M. under the bus. He responded for the first time about Angelo’s comments that Cedric put himself in a position to be a victim. (more…)

Zambrano’s Arm is Fine

Rest Assured Cubs fans, Carlos Zambrano is going to be alright and the Cubs promise their is nothing wrong with his arm. Fans should be more worried about Lou Piniella’s shoulder rather than Big Z’s. The Sun-Times yesterday wrote that the Cubs were worried about the shoulder of their ace but Lou squashed this report. Here is Lou Piniella speaking on the report in the Tribune: (more…)

PTI says take Rose

Pardon The Interruption today discussed the Beasley vs. Rose debate and both agreed that Paxson should take Derrick Rose. This one will be talked about until the draft, but it seems the experts want Rose. Sam Smith, Jay Mariotti, Rick Morrissey and a boatload of others have all said that Rose is the guy. Matt over at Blog-a-Bull wants Rose too and his fan poll is overwhelmingly in favor of the point guard from Simeon. Right now, I still like Beasley but wouldn’t be shocked if I changed my mind in a couple of weeks. If you want to hear Paxson’s thoughts on the pick listen to him on the Score with Mully and Hanley.

Bears Lose Top Receiver

Don’t worry, it’s only Mark Bradley another one of Jerry Angelo’s draft bust. He has a bum knee, which is just the latest injury for Bradley. The fact that he is number one on the depth chart, just screams how long of a year it will be for the Beloved. Sure Bradley will be back, hopefully by early training camp, but that doesn’t mean he wont be hurt again. Few teams can lose their top receiver, but luckily for the Bears they have four other stiffs that can fill in immediately. Fans expecting the Bears to compete this year should realize that they still don’t have a starting quarterback. They have a starting running back in his fourth season that still hasn’t proved he belongs in the league. To top it all off, they have a receiving crops that is relying on Mark Bradley. Thanks, Jerry nice offseason.

Its simple: Rose or Beasley

John Paxson has officially become a good General Manager and all it took was some balls. Lottery Balls that is. The Bulls finally strike gold, but now what? Beasley or Rose? Paxson thought he was having a tough time finding a coach, wait until he has to make this decision. You can’t blame him for waffling on this one. Either player is an upgrade to the roster, but which one will led the Bulls back to glory? I’ll take Beasley today, but I’m not so sure yet. (more…)

Its So hard on the Tribune Writers

It appears that Timothy McNulty (the guy on the left), the public editor of the Chicago Tribune, felt today would be a good day to bitch about how tough it is for the Tribune to cover the Cubs. No matter how hard the Tribune tries people are always going to think that they are biased to the Cubs. A natural assumption considering the Cubs and the Chicago Tribune are owned by the same company. Interesting piece but do you really expect anyone to believe the Tribune doesn’t have some sort of bias in the reporting of the Cubs? (more…)
